Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett

I found so much joy listening to this completely unique story. The POV is collective, which was a new experience, and I loved it. Emma has come home under duress to see her ailing father Clive who has dementia. Everyone is hoping Emma will be able to heal him since she was born with the "gift" of healing hands, or so they believe. What they don't know is her hands have been on the fritz. The family dynamic is hilarious to me. They find humor in the dark places, which is totally how my family operates, so I could totally relate. Unlikely Animals is magical realism at its very best with lots of heart & humor. I truly did not want this one to end. This book is available at the library and through Libby.

With a Vengeance by Riley Sager

Anna Matheson's life was destroyed by six people. Lured on a trip on the former luxury train owned by Anna's family, the six encounter tragic ends. By whom? The twist & turns in this novel are endless. Reminiscent of Agatha Christie's novel Murder on the Orient Express. Great read! This book is available at the library and through Libby.

Stories of a Cabin by Deb Vande Voort

On the shores of Lake Superior lies a rustic cabin that has been a place of rest, relaxation, and refuge to many travelers throughout the years. Every visitor’s stay is logged in the cabin’s guest book and with each new guest, a new tale is told about how the different paths that we take in life bring us right to where we are. I loved this beautifully written collection of stories! Each new chapter drew me in and made me feel like I was spending a day at the lake. The references to local areas and businesses also made this book so enjoyable. I had the pleasure of meeting Deb over the summer and she is a very sweet soul that radiates a warmth that can be felt on every page. I highly recommend this quick read to anyone! Available at the library. ~ Alesia

Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter

Abi Mariano has an infestation in her apartment complex and needs to find somewhere else to stay for a week. She's a professional cleaner and decides to stay in her client Declan Powell's penthouse apartment because she's certain that he will not be there. He never stays in the apartment during this time of the month.

After staying there one night, Abi meets her client's parents in the kitchen the following morning. Declan's parents think Abi is his girlfriend because he made up a girlfriend to keep them from badgering him about his private life. They love Abi and want him to include her in their upcoming family party. Declan meets Abi and agrees to let her stay in the apartment if she'll attend the party with him as a business arrangement. It's a harmless proposition? What can go wrong? It's a fun plot and a cute read. This book is available at the library and through Libby. ~ Erin

Too Old For This by Samantha Downing

I've become a fan of books featuring old lady serial killers. This one is fantastic. Despite needing a new hip, Lottie has no problem helping her guests meet their demise. Do not knock on Lottie's door. This book was funny & clever. I could not put it down. Available at the library and through Libby. ~ Leslie W.
