With the odds stacked against them, Melody and her team get to work in this hilarious ghostbusting adventure. This book was a great quirky spooky season read and I fully enjoyed it! The Chicken Sisters by KJ Dell'Antonia 

In Merinac, Kansas, you can either go to Chicken Mimi's or Chicken Frannie's to eat the best fried chicken. There's been an ongoing family feud between the Moore's, who have operated Chicken Mimi's & the Pogociellos, who run Chicken Frannie's for over a century. No one knows this feud more than Amanda Moore-Pogociello who worked for Chicken Mimi's in her youth. However, after high school she defected and married Frank Pogociello Jr. and has worked for Frannie's ever since.

Amanda contacts the reality TV show Food Wars to initiate a fried chicken competition between the 2 restaurants in Merinac. The winner of the competition gets $100,00 and both families can use the money. Her older sister, Mae lives in New York and has developed an organizing business that she'd like to turn into a successful TV show. Mae decides to relocate to Merinac to help her mom win Food Wars for Chicken Mimi's. Amanda feels that Frannie's is the better restaurant and therefore, should be the winner. This has Amanda & Mae against each other maintaining the feud. When a hidden family secret is revealed the outcome has the sisters deciding if continuing the feud is worth it. Look Closer by David Ellis

As always David Ellis created a captivating cast of characters in this backlist title from 2022.  Main characters Simon & Vicky have created a complex web of secrets that begins to unravel when a beautiful socialite is found hanging in her mansion. Simon's propensity to soothe his anxiety by contemplating the strange rules of the English language was highly entertaining for me. Now is the perfect time to pick this one up as the crime takes place on Halloween night while everyone is out trick-or-treating. This book is available at the library and through Libby. ~ Leslie M.
